SERVICES
Wiregrass Archaeology is a cultural resources consulting firm providing professional cultural resources management (CRM) services to a wide range of clients and has successfully completed more than 1,000 projects throughout the Southeast. Typically, cultural resources surveys are required as a result of a federal undertaking as described in Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. Examples of these type projects include USACE permit surveys, USFW permits, Emergency Response under FEMA or the USCG, or projects associated with federal highway, oil and gas, or other corridor projects.
Phase I cultural resources surveys are often required to comply with project permits. Archaeological monitoring is also required on many projects, and we have provided SOI-qualified archaeological monitors on projects from Savannah to New Orleans. Wiregrass provided support as part of the Incident Command Structure (ICS) on the Deepwater Horizon MC 252 Oil Spill Response, Department of Defense (National Guard Bureau, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army), the Mobile River Bridge Phase III mitigation project (partnership with the University of South Alabama in support of AL DOT), and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (Natural Resources Conservation Service) as well as numerous private clients (engineering firms, commercial land developers). We own several work boats that enable us to conduct near-shore submerged surveys or to access remote locations.
Wiregrass conducts in-house geophysical archaeology including Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) surveys and deep testing.
We also maintain a fleet of drones used in mapping archaeological sites, 3D modeling, and general aerial photography. Our fixed-wing Wingtra drone is capable of collected high-resolution aerial imagery on large tracts. We use this drone to survey large acreage, providing high-resolution images, multi-spectral (infra-red) imagery, and digital elevation models (DEM).
